admittedly . . .

I did not read every page of this 1,138 page book.

At what level Emma L. and Lizzie A. Borden occupied their considerable leisure time beyond the social and charitable organizations to which they were known to have belonged is impossible to surmise. It is almost certain that the sisters were involved in other clubs and societies whose records, if they have survived the passage of the years, have not yet been uncovered. As is often the case, one may be a dedicated member providing a considerable personal contribution, yet remain anonymous unless acting in some official capacity, as in the case of Emma, serving on the Book Committee of the Troy Book Club, or Lizzie, holding the position of secretary of the Fruit and Flower Mission.
